Wedding dress - where do you start!!??

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and i lovvvvvvvvve chatting away on the internet - so hopefully you will see a lot more of me.

So - where is everyone at with their wedding planning? I am super organised and am quite a fussy bride (haha)! But i just want to make sure that i get it RIGHT! I am marrying the most amazing man in the world (i bet you are all thinking that though about your men!) and i want to look like a total princess when i walk down that aisle! I have looked at about a million wedding dresses online and in magazines, but have not tried a single dress on yet.  My wedding is a while away so im not planning on spending the money yet....but it would be nice to have an idea.

Have you been dress shopping yet - and if so how do you know what is going to be right for you?  are the assistants in the shops helpful? how do they know what is going to suit  you?

i think i would like a dress wtih a halter neck and a lot of sparkles! im having an evening wedding.   Have you guys chosen your dresses yet?

hey CandyKiss......I like how you said you were a fussy bride! I am too.....I think we all are to some extent.

I'm looking for my wedding dress as well at the moment. I want to get loads of ideas, cut outs, print outs etc.....so that i have a good idea of what i think will suit me.....and then will book some appointments at local bridalwear stores.  i mean....im guessing im going to have to go back several times to try the dress on and make sure its a perfect fit. I wouldnt ever buy a wedding dress with out trying it on and making sure that it was 100% kosher. A friend of mine had a really bad experience from not buying her dress from a proper wedding dress shop!

At the moment im thinking i want a halter neck...or a v-neck - and ivory will suit my wedding more than a white wedding dress. I dont want too much detail as i dont want to look over the top.  I think that my dress will really have to match the style of my wedding venue....which i have yet to choose.....hence the reason im still just 'looking'.

    Hey CandyKiss!

Welcome to nuptales! It's good to see a few more people in here Smile

I am currently trying to convince my M.O.H that I would like an adventurous hen weekend, doing something completely crrrazzy! I think she's actually considering it now!

GET TO THOSE SHOPS AND START TRYING ON DRESSES!! no good just looking in mags and online. Im looking for something sleek and chic. Maybe a grecian style wedding dress. With a long v neck at the front. I've seen so many dresses in films that I love so I'm taking my inspiration from wedding films that I have been shamelessly watching over and over.

The assistants will be very helpful I'm sure...after all, they want you to buy one of their dresses! If your having an evening wedding then definately go for sparkles! all glitz and glamour will look stunning. I haven't chosen but I have a pretty good idea of the one I want.

Good luck with it all and keep us updated on the progress!

    xx

I need to book some appointments - Pronto!! I want to get my bridesmaid dresses and shoes and everything all in one place. That will make everything SO much easier!

Are any of you wearing a vintage wedding dress or family heirloom?

My friend has a vintage wedding dress from the 1950's that was her grandmothers and it fitted perfectly. It needed a little work because it had some discoloration and she made one or two small alterations to it..........Even if I saw one that I liked, I am not sure I would know who to take it to in Sydney!!

I had some great advice on dresses today!! There's so many choices and it looks like i'm spending over my budget.

One tip the lady who owned the shop gave me was.............. Never buy you own garter it's bad luck. I know it's silly but i listen to all of that.

    Hello Candykiss,

I started looking for dresses early cause i was so excited. I found one that i loved and have got it. I don't get married till April 2011. Most shop assistants are great and i've found they are honest. The store where i got my dress from the lady was amazing she pulled out all the dresses that suited me. I've just been back today to see if my shoes go. I am so excited i want to get married earlier so i can wear it! Big Smile
