Writing wedding thank you notes
One of the great aspects of getting married, among many, is the gifts that you receive. An absolute must is to write a thank you note to everyone that gave you a wedding gift, irrespective of how much you liked the gift!
It is important to show your loved ones and guests your appreciation and much gratitude for receiving their gifts. Most people enjoy getting mail, well anything that isn’t a bill anyway! We can give you help on how to go about writing your thank you notes, so there are no excuses!
It’s a good idea to start writing your thank you notes soon after the wedding (or maybe lying on a beach on your honeymoon sounds appealing!) If you put off writing them and end up leaving it for weeks, you might start thinking you’ve left it too long and the thank you notes don’t get done. For gifts received before the wedding, two weeks is an acceptable time limit to send the thank you notes. 1 month is an acceptable time limit for gifts received at the wedding, which gives you time to enjoy that well deserved honeymoon.
It’s important to write your thank you notes by hand, by yourself or your spouse (whoever has the neatest handwriting!) Crossing out words and messy writing are complete no-no’s. Take time over the content, so that the notes appear sincere and very personal.
It is polite to mention the gift that you received and you can mention how much pleasure it will bring yourself and your partner or how it will be used.
As well as thanking your guests for their wonderful gifts, it is an opportunity to say how grateful you are for them to take time to attend your wedding and being part of your spectacular day. If you receive gifts from people that could not attend, it is important for you to still send them a thank you note. You can mention how sorry you are that they couldn’t make it and how you would have loved them to be there.
Make sure that you use nice paper to write your thank you notes on, or blank cards. To save on costs you can get your wedding invitations printed at the same time, but remember you should always handwrite them.
