The wedding reception, similarly to the wedding ceremony, has its own traditions to be upheld; it is during the reception that the wedding cake is cut. However, before you even get to cutting the cake, careful attention must be paid to displaying it.
One of the highlights of the wedding reception is undoubtedly the wedding cake and we are not just talking about the cutting of it, we are talking about its display. Your cake will be the center of attention at the wedding reception (second to the bride and groom of course) and so therefore it needs to be properly displayed.
Tips for Wedding Cake Display
- Wedding cakes are on display from the very beginning of the wedding reception and are cut towards the end. The wedding cake could be on display for quite a while, depending on whether you choose to have a long reception. To help make sure that your cake will last for the entire reception, double check that the filling you have used in the cake does not cause it to go bad. The frosting on the cake also needs to be the type that does not melt before the time of the cake cutting comes around.
- The cake should be displayed in an eye- catching area which is also unlikely to have too many guests milling around it. The cake should certainly be visible to your guests but not positioned in a place where it could be accidentally knocked off.
- Special lighting can also be added for your wedding cake to make it look truly outstanding. A spotlight focus is a great way to achieve this. However, make sure the light is not too hot as it could cause the icing to melt.
- Your cake should not be displayed too close to the dance floor. If guests happen to be slightly over- enthusiastic, they could easily knock it off.
- You should take into consideration the size of the wedding cake when you choose a table as it should not be too big or small. It will need to be cloaked in a pristine table cloth and then you can put flowers, garlands and other such decorations on top to add some colour. Another option is to layer it with tulle to make it look especially magical.
